Husky Farm Visit or Husky Sled Safari in Rovaniemi?

A husky kennel visit, a passenger ride or a self-drive safari from Rovaniemi: how far each one goes, who holds the sled, and which suits whom.

Updated November 2026

If you want to drive a team, book a self-drive safari: Safartica’s Rovaniemi: Daytime Husky Safari - 5 km self-driven, from US$211 a person (checked November 2026), gives you 5 km at the handlebar after a lesson from the musher. If you would rather sit, a passenger ride puts a musher behind you; if you mostly want to meet the dogs, a kennel visit is shorter and cheaper.

Two adults share each Safartica team and children ride in the sleigh. The ride takes about 20 to 30 minutes, and winter clothing, transfers and hot drinks with biscuits by the campfire are included.

A kennel visit

A farm visit is about the dogs, not the ride. Apukka Resort Oy's visit spends an hour at the farm: what the huskies eat, how they train for the sledding season, time to pet and photograph them, and a warm drink at a campfire. The 500-metre carriage ride is driven by the guide and happens weather permitting. Feeding the animals is not allowed. Transfers from Rovaniemi city centre or Santa Claus Village are included if you need them.

Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park's farm visit adds a 1 km sleigh ride and a “husky hugging” session in the kennel, with puppies depending on the season. It is rated 4.2 by 244 reviewers.

A passenger ride

Here a musher drives and you sit. Bearhill husky's ride is the quickest way onto a sled: a 30-minute slot in the woods of Santa Claus Village, 2.5 km and 7 to 12 minutes of riding, then hot juice and cookies in a kota. A sled fits up to 4 adults, and single travellers share with people outside their party. There are no transfers and no outer clothing.

Beyond Arctic's ride is a 3 km sled ride as a passenger at a small kennel run by a local musher family, with a professional photographer and edited photos delivered a few days later. Hotel pickup, winter clothing and boots are included, and the group is limited to 8.

A self-drive safari

On a self-drive safari you are the musher for the ride. You get a briefing and then steer and brake the sled yourself, often with a second adult riding in it; on several safaris the two swap halfway. Guests on Apukka Resort Oy's safari in December 2025 and February 2026 wrote that a guide on a snowmobile rides ahead and sets the pace, and in December 2025 that they braked a lot behind slower sleds.

Safartica’s 5 km is the short end of the self-drive listings. A Day In Lapland runs 6 to 10 km, and Rovaniemi Insider's ride 10 km with a driver switch.

Prices, ratings and review counts from the listings (GetYourGuide checked November 2026). Operators price by date and season, so treat the figures as the shape of the market, not a quote.

Beyond Arctic’s passenger ride also sells on Viator as Local Husky Experience with Sled Ride and Photographer for US$221 (checked November 2026). The operators price in euros, so what you pay in US dollars depends on the day’s conversion.
